About Code 3 Academy

Code 3 Academy was built to solve a problem most first responders recognize immediately: training does not always match reality.

Protocols are taught. Skills are practiced. But the hardest part of the job—making decisions under pressure, with incomplete information, in dynamic environments—is often left to experience alone.

Code 3 Academy focuses on closing that gap.

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve decision-making, operational performance, and long-term resilience in first responders through practical, scenario-based training and real-world education.

We are building systems that reflect how the job actually works—not just how it is taught.

What We Do

  • Scenario-Based Training: Realistic, decision-driven scenarios designed to build clinical judgment and operational thinking.
  • Field-Relevant Education: Articles and training focused on what providers actually encounter in EMS, fire, and public safety.
  • Decision-Making Development: Emphasis on assessment, prioritization, and adaptive thinking under pressure.
  • Mental Health and Resilience: Practical approaches to stress, burnout, and long-term performance.

From Training to Real-World Impact

Training is only part of the solution.

Code 3 Academy works alongside Emergency Services Outreach (ESO), a nonprofit focused on supporting first responders and their families through mental health resources, outreach, and recovery-focused initiatives.

Together, these efforts connect education with real-world support—helping providers not only perform at a high level, but sustain that performance over time.

About the Founder

Code 3 Academy was founded by Sean Haaverson, a paramedic and educator with experience across municipal, tribal, federal, and austere environments.

His background includes flight, critical care, tactical, and fire service operations, as well as building training systems and community paramedicine programs. He serves as senior EMS faculty at Central New Mexico Community College and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on astronaut rescue and space operations.

The goal of Code 3 Academy is to translate real-world experience into scalable systems that improve how first responders train, think, and perform.

Why Code 3

“Code 3” represents urgency, response, and commitment under pressure.

It reflects the reality of the job—and the responsibility carried by those who do it.

This platform is built for providers who want to improve, think critically, and operate at a higher level.

Where This Is Going

Code 3 Academy is developing a broader ecosystem that includes scenario-based applications, training systems, and tools designed to support first responders across their entire career.

The objective is simple:

  • Better decisions
  • Stronger performance
  • Longer, healthier careers
